The way people lived in the time that police brutality started was hard if you were not a white person. If you were a minority such as black,Mexican and Chinese it was hell living through those years. The white people had norms that they were the best and they had to rule everything that they found even if it meant hurting other people for it. They also believed that they had the right to treat any other color any way that they wanted. The sanctions that they put out to the minorities were that if they did everything they wanted them to do they would not kill them. The white people did not value the work or anything the workers did. A value is something that a person cares for and finds as importance. One value that police brutality does not follow is the respect towards others. Police treat people in a very negative way and they are dehumanizing the people they are hurting. They are also violating the value of freedom of speech. In the life we live now people can't say nothing to express themselves without getting prosecuted by police. This shouldn't be a issue because freedom of speech is our right. Police officers are also violating the value of people being free. Officers always try to correct people for things that they shouldn't be worried about. These 3 values are apart of my norms and sanctions because police are doing the same thing other officers were doing back in time but just in a different way and they are trying everyday to break people's values. Norms are beliefs about what is acceptable in a persons society.3 norms that are being violated by police are the people's laws ,their rights, and the injustice of the people. These norms violate my values because if the police officers would treat people with the law and would not treat them with injustice there would be no police brutality. Sanctions are penalties or rewards for which a person reacts. One formal sanction that is put upon the criminals is don't say nothing and we won't arrest you. Another formal sanction is that police officers might have is if you do not listen we will put you down. An informal sanction that is involved in my issue is how police officers look down on homeless people and they will mess with them just because they are defenseless. Another informal sanction is that the officers will grab a gangbanger and drop him off in the opposite gang neighborhood just to have a laugh. All of these sanctions encourage the criminal to listen to the cop or he will suffer the consequences.
Conflict is the control in power of the rich to the poor. The major assumptions of this perspective is two groups fighting for something they both want. This perspective connects to my issue because there are two groups that are fighting constantly and they do not stop because there can not be a winner and finding out who is wrong is hard. Not finding who is wrong ,justifying why it is wrong is hard for each of the groups. The groups that are in war against each other is the criminals being abused and the officers abusing them. The group that is in power is the police because they have the higher authority and if one of them gets to choose it is the cops. For example in the movie of (Cesar Chavez,2014) the authorities have the power against Cesar and all of his people. In a part of the movie Cesar gets kicked out of the property because they were protesting . The people being abused and losing are all of the victims and they are being constrained because they can not do nothing against there abuse. For example ,the kids that were playing in the woods making there tree house, the kids got guns pointed at them and arrested for playing. The kids had no idea of why they were being attacked but they had to take it because they were young. This lens is the best one to apply to my issue because there is
