The 3 root causes of my issue are money, power, and racism. These 3 causes have been the problem because there are people that always want to be higher than everyone else. Also because the police always thinks that they are right in every situation. My root causes are social and political issues because everyone in the world might face these factors and they aren't able to do nothing about it. It is a political issue because the government knowns what is going on but they don't seem to stop or help the people that are being abused.
One of my root causes is money.Money is an issue because the higher people in this world always think they can buy their way through everything and every situation that occurs to them. For example in the reading of (Heffners,1980) he had a interview with a police officer who was part of police brutality and the officer said that he gets paid to create justice and enforce the law.Heffner tells the officer well beating up a person is not justice. What the officer tried to justify his beating was with the fact that he got paid to arrest the man and stop him of his crime. I find it wrong that officers that abuse their power get paid for not doing there job well.Officers everywhere think that because they get paid higher than the average person they can treat them however they think is right ,not how the law states. Also money is a big cause because some officers get themselves into being corrupt cops and they start working for the bad guys.Since I think money will make people do a lot of bad things I imagine all of the things cops do for big amounts of money. This affect is seen all over the world and especially in mexico where the citizens cant trust there own leaders.
My second root cause of police brutality is power. The badge on a officer gives him the power to say anything or look at anybody the way that they want to.This makes them look at there job like if they own everything and no one is going to be able to call them out on anything. This is bad because the power that is invested in them might get to there head and make them think that they can treat any citizen a way that they think is right. Some officers know what they can't and can do and them knowing that they will look down on a person for what the person is not. All over the world there are riots and arguments of how officers beat victims worse than what they really have to. The officer might justify his answer as I was only doing my job because the law gives me the power to defend myself and take actions into my hands and the crime had to be stopped. I agree with the crime had to be stopped but not with the whole taking matter into there own hands. I believe the officers should only go as far as the person of the crime goes. Officers are not like that though they will hurt you because they have the power to.
The last root cause of police brutality is racism. Racism plays a big role in police brutality because police officers or some type of authority started as white people. White people took the power of creating a world where they were the best and didn't think that no one had the right or the ability to live like them. As stated in the reading of (Holmes,2008),the minorities other known as the blacks have always fought against the mistreatment and the excessive beatings against officers and the dislike of the blacks angered the whites and started to beat them because they didn't think they had the right to make there voice heard. There is also the case of Cesar Chavez and how he started to fight for the workers rights and as seen in the strikes there was white people calling them names and the police wouldn't do nothing because they were racist to the Mexicans even though some of the workers weren't mexican .Racism is a huge part of police brutality because most officers pick and choose who they mistreat and who they don't. This is something wrong in our world and we need to stop.
